In support of his objective to protect the most vulnerable people in South Yorkshire, Commissioner Wright has called for extra vigilance concerning callers to elderly people’s homes who claim to represent utility or delivery companies.
He advises people to ask to see identity badges and to ring the telephone number listed in the telephone book and not one given by the doorstep caller, and to do this with the door secured.
Genuine representatives will not object to waiting on the doorstep, and the Commissioner advises those seeing anyone acting suspiciously to telephone South Yorkshire Police on 101.
