In response to the findings of the Home Affairs Committee in their follow-up report on child sexual exploitation and the response to localised grooming, Acting South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Steve Pick said:
“In relation to dealing with the issue of grooming and child sexual exploitation, I would welcome any action which contributes to the prevention of similar events occurring in the future. Anything which adds to tackling such an abhorrent crime has to be positive thing.
“The issue of the missing files and documents referred to in the report is alarming and is certainly worthy of further investigation in order to shed as much light as possible on the matter and learn necessary lessons.
“The risk of bringing in new legislation on measures to remove Police and Crime Commissioners is that we move from one extreme to the other. It is essential, in striking an appropriate balance, that any measures in this respect are underpinned by robust checks and balances.”
