Voluntary Organisation receives funding for vulnerable residents in Intake

Monday Club

A voluntary organisation that works together with adults and children from the local community has received a small grant from the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s grant fund.

The Monday Club, based in Intake, Doncaster received £600 from the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings.

It was the promise of funding from the Commissioner’s 2015/16 Community Grant Scheme that enabled the Monday Club to run an extra youth club session throughout the six week summer holidays and involve the children in running bingo sessions. It also provided summer outdoor games for young people throughout the summer break.

Dr Alan Billings said:  “I was pleased to be able to visit the Monday Club and was very surprised by how many activities they were able to provide with the £600 funding.  The volunteers are obviously very dedicated and committed to helping young people and vulnerable residents in Intake. I salute them for all they do in their community.”

Set up over seven years ago, the Monday Club initially supported vulnerable residents and over the years has become more established.  Recently they have taken Intake Youth Club under their umbrella to avoid closure of this much needed facility for local children.

Kim Doyle who runs the Monday Club said: “We are hoping that by providing young people with somewhere warm and safe to go to we will help to target some of the local issues.  We are also hoping to encourage intergenerational working between these young people and older residents.

Based at Intake Library, the Monday Club is open twice a week for adults running bingo sessions which has around 45 members, and also holds a weekly youth club for the children which has up to 50 children attending.
