PCC visits the Unity Centre in Rotherham

Unity Centre Visit 1

Dr Alan Billings visited the Unity Centre in Rotherham on Wednesday, 2 March 2016 and met with the Nayi Zindagi Group.

The charity seeks to help those with a range of disabilities who come from ethnic minority backgrounds where they can face some rejection because of those disabilities.

The Commissioner attended a group session and was very impressed with the learning opportunities being offered by the project.  He saw the help it gave and answered questions from group members.

Rziah Asif the project manager highlighted how their workshops provide a practical and culturally appropriate emotional support and befriending service to users and their families.

The Commissioner said: "I was very impressed by the work this group does among some of the most vulnerable people in our community. I was especially interested in the questions put to me about the role of the police.

“As Commissioner I need to hear the views from people of every background. One of my priorities for the police is that they should treat all people with equal fairness."
